Most professional and paraprofessional healthcare team members currently providing care have not been trained in safety sciences. The Patient Safety Education Program-Canada seeks to help meet this need while at the same time, creating a tipping point on the frontline delivery of healthcare that inspires and drives a culture of quality, safe care.

The Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) and the Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI) have partnered to bring you the Become a Patient Safety Trainer conference, a high impact, comprehensive patient safety education program. With an emphasis on an interprofessional team approach, and peer to peer education, this 2 ½ day education event, will certify participant teams as Patient Safety Education Program trainers.

PSEP-Canada uses a conference-based education dissemination method, originally developed for palliative care and proven to be extremely effective, which uses a curriculum-driven approach grounded in specific adult learning methods to teach both content and how to disseminate it. This train-the-trainer approach, is grounded in adult learning theory and embedded into social structures to facilitate behaviour change. The curriculum, originally developed by Northwestern University by American and international patient safety experts, has undergone an extensive customization by Canadian patient safety experts for the Canadian healthcare provider audience.
