Hospitals have the responsibility for ensuring that their facilities are in good condition by managing their capital assets and planning their renewal activities. Capital funding pressures are driven by a growing and aging population, new information and medical technologies, demand for renewal and growth investments, aging infrastructure and construction market forces.

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) and LHINs established a Joint Capital Working Group in response to the MOHLTC/ LHIN Accountability Agreement, which requires local needs to be considered in capital planning. The new framework places greater emphasis on local planning and ensures capital projects align with community needs.

Chaired by Cameron Love, Senior Vice President, Clinical Programs, Planning and Support Service at The Ottawa Hospital, participants will gain insight around strategic planning and identify innovative ways to access capital and keep limited health care funding channeled to effective service delivery areas. Participants will hear from capital planning experts on topics including the MOHLTC/ LHIN Capital Working Group, improving patient care with limited capital funds, how design facilitates better patient outcomes, the OHA Capital Procurement Cooperative, the Broader Public Sector Accountability Procurement Directive, and the future of operations.
