Health care human resources (HR) professionals are challenged to keep current with HR topics but also with health care issues and trends – and this task is even more difficult in today’s health care environment – where there is one sure thing: change. To help bring you up to speed, Tom Closson, President and CEO of the Ontario Hospital Association will provide an overview of Ontario’s health care system, highlighting some of the changes, issues and trends.

An important requirement for health care HR professionals is to keep current with changes to health care legislation and this symposium will focus on enhancing attendees’ understanding of it. The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) has passed two major legislations within the last year: the Excellent Care for All Act (ECFAA) and the Broader Public Sector Accountability Act which contains many amendments – like new procurement and expense rules, or the amendment to bring hospitals under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). Delegates will hear about HR’s role in  ECFAA and FIPPA.

It is crucial for health care HR leaders to hold a seat at the strategic planning table. An important aspect of this role is their rapport with the CEO. This program features a panel of CEOs and HR leaders discussing this important rapport. Questions to be explored include: “What are the CEOs’ expectations from the HR leaders?” and “What do HR leaders expect from their CEOs?”
