Toronto police have arrested more than 30 people across the GTA on Thursday morning in what the force is calling a serious and ongoing case related to alleged insurance fraud.
There are few details, but Chief Bill Blair is scheduled to hold a news conference later Thursday to announce the arrests and charges laid during Project Whiplash.
The Traffic Services division is involved, and Const. Hugh Smith told the CBC's Neil Herland that the case is serious.
Herland said rows of police cars are dropping off the arrested people, in handcuffs, at the Traffic Services headquarters on Hanna Avenue in the Liberty Village area.
Other people are being processed in Scarborough, Herland said.
